A healing broth

As I sit here suffering from yet another cold in my sinuses, waiting for Frank to get back from the store, I thought I’d share a recipe for an immune-system boosting broth that Nico’s pediatrician recommended we make and drink any time we felt a cold coming on.  I think it has worked for me in the past and I expect it to work for me today too (I need to be ready for his big birthday brunch tomorrow!).

3 T chopped parsley
3 T chopped ginger
3 T chopped garlic
5 spring onions, chopped
5 shitake mushrooms, chopped
8 c water
salt and pepper (and/or hot pepper flakes) to taste

Boil for 45 minutes.

Strain and drink the broth.

Update from a week later — I felt fine the next day.  It must have been the broth!

  1. Daniel swears by garlic, lemon and honey tea — also seems to work wonders. Although, personally, I’m more found of ginger tea than garlic. :)
