Fun and Sun in Florida
After all that snow, we couldn’t wait to escape for our annual trip to Florida. It was expensive to fly, so we decided to brave a 15 hour car trip with a boy who hates the car. And, much to our surprise, he did great! We would leave in the morning after he woke up and had been up for an hour or more. One of us would sit in the back with him to keep him entertained when he was awake. Inevitably he would fall asleep. If I was in the back with him, I would pump and then one of us would feed him a bottle the next time he woke up or, preferably, while he slept. He would let us know when he had had enough by screaming at the top of his lungs, and we would speed for the next exit to get him out of the car ASAP. We did some laps walking around empty parking lots, stopped for meals whether we were hungry or not, (or didn’t stop when we were hungry if he was sleeping), and then distracted him as much as possible when we got him back into the seat. We also stopped driving by sun-down every day because he has taught us that the evening makes everything about being in a car seat that much worse. It all worked and we were able to really minimize the amount of tears and maximize the distance we traveled between stops.
Once in FL, we went to the beach, the baseball stadium to see a Cardinals pre-season game, and the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary. Nico had 2 sets of grandparents spoiling him and he showed off for Grandma Schipani by rolling over for her for the very first time.
