Favorite DC Restaurants

These are some of our favorite restaurants in the DC area:

Dinner

Agraria
The food is delicious, the atmosphere is great, and the idea behind the restaurant might be the best part of all:

Originally conceived by the North Dakota Farmers Union with the intent to promote and enable the American family farmer to capture a greater share of the food dollar, the Agraria Restaurant is a family-farmer owned and sourced restaurant with contemporary American cuisine that emphasizes meat, pasta and seasonal dishes from across the country. By dining with us you are helping to support family farmers that proudly supply the food, “From Our Fields to Your Table.”

The Bombay Club
Great Indian food with live piano music and white tablecloths and not too expensive.  We love the paneer palak (saag paneer) and dal makhni (lentils) and we always finish with rabri (a sweet rice pudding) without mango for dessert.

The News Cafe
Brunch here is out of this world — the eggs are delicious any way they’re cooked.  But this Italian restaurant also has great dinners.  The best part might be the intricate Moroccan-style tiles decorating the walls in the rear rooms — it’s absolutely beautiful!

Restaurant Nora
For a special night out, Nora’s can’t be beat.  Most menu items are organic and grown locally, so the menu always changes.  There is surprisingly little selection for vegetarians, but everything is delicious.  Asia Nora is a bit cheaper, but we like Nora’s better.

Sonoma
This is as close as we can get to Artisanal in DC.  It’s a wine and cheese place with some other menu options.  We like the big cheese board with 12 cheeses and a wine or two to match.

Brunch

The Dupont Grille
It’s in Jury’s Hotel, but the food is no standard hotel fare.  Brunch is several courses, with the main course being big enough for two.  Everything is delicious, the French toast, eggs, and everything else.
